NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. brings food, fun and entertainment to the Grand Strand with Whisky River

The Carolina Q Burger and Dirty Tots are two wow-worthy items on the Whisky River menu.

Speed is paramount in NASCAR racing, but you’ll want to slow down and savor the experience when you visit North Myrtle Beach’s newest food/entertainment venue. Building on the success of his other Whisky River locations, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has brought his winning combination of Southern hospitality, casual dining, drinking and feel-good fun.

“We’ve been wanting to add a Whisky River to the North Myrtle Beach area for quite some time,” said Earnhardt Jr. “It’s also a very special place for me personally. I cut my teeth racing late models at Myrtle Beach Speedway. It will always be a very special place.” Don’t be surprised to see him cheering on folks riding the mechanical bull on a Saturday night.

After opening in early 2018, Whisky River has shifted into a new gear with the addition of general manager Burton Stapp. Stapp has been a longtime family friend of Earnhardt and has an extensive and storied history in the entertainment and food business. Stapp is expanding on the foundation of entertainment, food and fun by bringing in weekly live entertainment to include some major acts and expanding the menu to include a Friday all-you-can-eat fish night ($12.95).

Starting on the menu with appetizers are the Dirty Tots ($11.99), which will have you wondering how there could possibly be something on the menu any better. The first bite would have you saying “WOW,” but you won’t want to stop eating long enough to speak. Crispy, crunchy, golden brown tater tots are tickled with a warm chipotle queso sauce and smothered in tender pulled pork, diced tomatoes and green spring onions with a drizzle of their signature BBQ sauce. Words cannot come close to doing it justice. This dish, along with your adult beverage of choice, is perfect for lunch, dinner or just hanging out with friends.

Staying true to the goal of serving “not your average bar food” is the Carolina Q Burger ($13.50). Served on a toasted, buttery potato roll, this is a half-pound of flame-grilled Black Angus beef cooked to your liking. It is then piled high with tender, slow-cooked pulled pork, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and crisp dill pickle slices. The flavors blend perfectly and create an exceptional burger experience. At first glance the fries don’t appear to be anything special, but they are. Hand cut and golden brown, they are seasoned with a salt/pepper/secret ingredient that makes them anything but ordinary.

Whisky River is sure to be one of your next favorite places to have fun dining.
