April Armstrong & Colby Thomas

April Armstrong and Colby Thomas met “the old-fashioned way – by swiping right,” says April.

While they were dating, April was the planner. But, for April’s birthday, Colby promised he would plan a trip all by himself and, little did April know, he would propose during this weekend getaway.

The engagement came on Columbus Day Weekend in Savannah, Georgia, where Colby planned a hike, during which he proposed on a marsh boardwalk. When they returned to the hotel, the couple found an eagerly awaiting waitstaff, who had kept the proposal a secret from April.

The wedding was on a beautiful day on September 24. Guests were able to watch the ceremony directly on the golf course and enjoy a glass of champagne served by the waitstaff at The Surf Club in North Myrtle Beach. The reception was also at The Surf Club, in the Hussey Hall, with white and sage accents. It was special because Colby’s family has had ties to the place for years. April, originally from Montgomery, N. Y., had family and hometown friends travel from New York. Colby, from Wadesboro, N.C., welcomed high school and college friends from all over.

“The best part was having North and South on the dance floor come together, “ April says. Colby’s aunt, who also is Colby’s co-worker at the family business of Young Interiors, was the wedding planner.

The couple resides in Myrtle Beach. Colby is a salesperson at Young Interiors; April is a special education self-contained teacher at Myrtle Beach Elementary and a Realtor at Century 21 Boling & Associates.
